The Eight Pointed Star on a Firefighters Badge

The eight pointed star is the Cross of St John. It originated in the Maltese Cross, The Emblem Of The Knights of Malta, and was used by the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem at the time of the crusades.

The points or "TENETS" were said to represent the knightly virtues of:

TACT

PERSEVERENCE

GALLANTRY

LOYALTY

DEXTERITY

EXPLICITNESS

OBSERVATION

SYMPATHY

Since these represent the qualities of a firefighter, the star was chosen for the insignia of the National Auxillary Fire Service and has remained so with Fire Services today

Kent International Airport Fire & Rescue Service has adopted the White Horse of Kent and added wings to it's back, thus representing the people of Kent who use the Airport and those who we protect as they fly in the sky's above us.
